Gods Children
Go to sleep little one
Lay down your sleepy head
Close your heavy weary eyes
Away from harm and dread
Your one of Gods little children
Sent to us to make our day
So that we can love you
In each and every way
You bring joy into our lives
And you make us weep and smile
But sadly some nasty people
Can be violent and vile
They take away your innocence
For their own selfish needs
Never caring about what they do
Its just their sickness that it feeds
To destroy a life in one so small
A crime against all humanities
The pain and suffering that it brings
Sometimes you’re the only one that sees
The damage that’s been inflicted
A body torn apart
The suffering will be always there
Deep inside your heart
But with Gods help and your resilience
You will overcome your fear
Because you will learn someday that
There are people who care
The true ones that will love you
Be there for you each day
And do their best to keep you safe
From those who would do you harm in any way
So never let despair
Take away your life, Gods gift to you
Because he’s always there on the look out
Watching everything you do
That hand upon your shoulder
The wind against your cheek
You will feel him around to give you the strength
That you will always seek
So sleep tight little soldier
Never fear that he will leave
Because you will always feel him
Tugging at your sleeve
The Weir
Down the lane, not far from home
A place where many children roam
There is a house that stands alone
Built in wonderful Dorset stone
By the side a river runs by
Winding, flowing, water level quite high
A footpath winds along by its side
Although the river is quite wide
On a bend, next to the house, a weir
Gushes water, fairly near
To the footpath where the children walk
Sometimes forgetful as they talk
Little Jenny Mayweather, just our years old
Walking with her mum, wrapped up warm against the cold
Was skipping and dancing near the river behind a hedge
And approached the weir too near the edge
Tripped and fell over the side
Her Mum screaming realising she may have died
Taken by the water, at this point, a gushing, raging pool
But just by chance Tommy Blenkinsopp , on his way home from school
Heard the screams and ran, hearing Jenny’s name
To the point from whence the sound came
Seeing the girl going under the water for the last time
Raced to the edge and dived straight in, double quick time
With no thought to his own safety at all
He went under the water, like a cannon ball
Hearing the screams further help came and found
Mum shouting, she’s in the water, my god she’s drowned
As onlookers waited with baited breath on the bank
May realising what had happened their hearts sank
But just then Tommy surfaced with little Jenny under his arm
As the police arrived, someone had raised the alarm
Though not moving, she was saved by Tommy’s selfless act
Lucky for Jenny, he was the first to react
As they were dragged from the weir everyone cheered
As Jenny opened her eyes coughing and spluttering
Tommy walked away under his breath just muttering
About how stupid it was to walk by the weir
That someone would fall in was people’s greatest fear
Jenny’s mum looked round to thank Tommy Blenkinsopp
But he had walked away down to the village shop
Where his mum and dad ran the store
And soaking wet walked through the door
His mum went mad, what have you done
Thinking he had got soaked out having fun
Just then P C Jones walked through the door
As his Mum and Dad gave him what for
NO, No said P C Jones, he saved the day
Lucky for little Jenny he had walked home that way
Everyone by now had reached the door
And little Jenny stood in the door
A big smile upon her face
And cheers rang out all over the place
A life was saved thanks to Tommy’s brave act
And Jenny’s mum was thankful that’s a fact
So now there’s a fence along the pathway
To stop anything like this happening another day
And Tommy and Jenny, well guess what happened in later years
They fell in love, were married, many of the guests in tears
Because they remembered the day that Jenny nearly drowned
And how lucky it was Tommy was around
They lived happy ever after and that’s a fact
Just shows what can happen if you react
Quickly to any given incident
And forward thinking can prevent
Accidents from happening, like the message this one is sending
So always keep this thought in mind, not always is there a happy ending
The Angel
As she sits in perfect peace
The Angel sits in deepest thought
Is it of a past love she thinks?
Or just a moment that she’s caught
Her beauty is beyond compare
Still to be with her forevermore
With her locks of curly hair
Her past life just a far distant shore
Now her life to glide the universe
Watching over many a long lost soul
With her hand to guide them home
Together they will stroll
Her heart maybe heavy
With thoughts that may have been
Of her lovers long ago
And things that she has seen
But she sits alone and thinks
Of what her life is now
Of all the sad souls she can save
With her hand upon their brow
Her white wings shining in the sun
Now it’s her time to sleep
So we must let her settle down
And promise not to peep
When
When my eyes have no tears to shed
I lay down my sleepy head
A double life a poet leads
Words grow like flowers or weeds
Like beauty through to heaven
My poems shake down saddened thoughts in showers
Loosened with the winds
Opening up the channels to let
Words in
With our mystic measure of rhythmic motion
The sun enchants the ocean
In dreams
Listen
Listen to the Wind
What does it say today?
Will it tell me you love me?
In each and every way
Will the clouds still show pictures?
Of your face up in the sky
And will I see your lovely smile
As they gently pass me by
Will there be a Rainbow
After some morning rain
All those colours etched into my mind
Of passion until we meet again
When the Sun comes shining down
Casting a shadow walking next to me
It’s like you are with me right away
On my arm where you should always be
The Wind doth blow, and the Sun doth shine
Just like my thoughts of you in my heart
All I can say with fortitude
Thank God for my friends who are with me, always
When we are far apart
Lolly
Lolly was a Leprechaun
Who lived inside a Tree
A joy little fellow
As happy as could be
He loved a little fairy maiden
Who was called Penelope
And every day he used to watch
Her swimming in the river wild and free
And she used to flap her tiny wings
And fly around the place
In and out of the bushes
With such style and grace
The Blues and Greens mixed in her wings
Shone so spectacularly, and with ease
And the little Red and Blue dress she wore
Would rustle wildly in the breeze
But she rarely noticed Lolly
For he was not her type at all
She was in love with Peter pan
And ran at his every call
So lolly became miserable
And down in the dumps was he
And started staying in his hideout
Beneath the old Oak tree
But the fairy Godmother noticed
What was taking place down by the Pond
And tried to get Lolly to venture out
Down past the old Mill and far beyond
To find another Fairy
Who would love him in return
For he had so much feeling deep inside
And for Penelope he did yearn
As he sat upon a Mushroom
In a leafy glade in Butterfly Wood
He saw another little Fairy
So pretty and looked so good
Her found out her name was Mary
She had a captivating smile
And she was smitten with lolly’s bright blue eyes
So they began courting for a while
Now Lolly was a happy little Leprechaun again
Now true love had come his way
He would sing and dance the whole day through
Since Mary had come his way
The moral of this little tale
Never give up on happiness it may not be far away
It may be just around the corner, down by the stream
Who are we to say
